Day 1 Apt Tunis – Tunis (20 Kms)

Arrival at Tunis airport. Meet and greet and transfer to Hotel Tunisia Palace 4 * or similar. Dinner and overnight.

 Day 2 Tunis – Bardo – Carthage – Sidi Bou Said – Tunis ( 180 Kms )

After breakfast, departure to the Bardo Museum. This is one of the largest museums in the Mediterranean Sea and the second museum of the African continent after the Egyptian Museum in Cairo. Housed in a former Bey palace since 1888, it offers a prestigious and beautiful setting with exposure to many major works discovered since the beginnings of archaeological research in the country. Visit the medina of Tunis, Dar Abdallah and Dar Othman.  Lunch. In the afternoon, departure to visit the archaeological site of Carthage, which was in successive order Punic, Roman, Byzantine and Vandal. Discover the Punic Tophet, the Baths of Antoninus and theater. Departure to the village of Sidi Bou Said. First protected site in the world perched on a cliff overlooking the Gulf of Carthage and Tunis, the medieval village of Sidi Bou Said is a small paradise in the colors of the Mediterranean. Visit and return to Tunis. Dinner and overnight at Tunisia Palace.

 Day 3: Tunis – Kairouan ( 120 Kms )

Departure after breakfast to Kairouan. To spend a full day. First Muslim city in North Africa, its cultural and scientific success in the ninth century, spread up to the borders of Europe and Asia.

Beyond the historical and spiritual Kairouan manifested through the medina and its ramparts, zaouias (shrines) and other monuments and sites, you will discover a city of art and crafts. That’s where Paul Klee wrote in his diary: “Color possesses me […] I am a painter. » (Journal 9 260). Accommodation at the hotel Kasbah. After lunch, visit the mausoleum of Sidi Sahbi. Dinner and overnight hotel Kasbah Kairouan 5 *.

 Day 4: Kairouan

Full day at Kairouan with visits around the medina, the souks …

Dinner and overnight Kasbah Kairouan Hotel 5 *.

Day 5 : Kairouan – El Jem –  Kairouan (150 Kms )

Breakfast and departure to El Djem. Visit the museum and the famous amphitheatre (often incorrectly called “a coliseum”), capable of seating 35,000 spectators. Only Rome’s Coliseum (about 45,000 spectators) and the ruined theatre of Capua are larger. The amphitheatre at El Djem was built by the Romans under proconsul Gordian, who was acclaimed Emperor at Thysdrus, around 238 and was probably mainly used for gladiator shows and chariot races (like in Ben-Hur). It is also possible that construction of the amphitheatre was never finished.

Back to Kairouan. Dinner and overnight in hotel Kasbah Kairouan.

Day 6 : Kairouan – Sousse –  Hammamet (220 Kms )

Breakfast and departure to Sousse, the third largest city. Sousse, the “Pearl of the Sahel”, is very old. Founded by the Phoenicians and called  Hadrumetum, quickly became the third Punic cities, after Carthage and Utica. Today it is the capital of the Tunisian Sahel. It is a very active industrial center and is one of the most important tourist centers of the country. Visit the old town. Departure to Hammamet. Visit the fort and the Medina. Dinner and overnight in Dar Hayet hotel.

 Day 7: Hammamet – Ez-zahra – Tunis  (120 Kms)

After breakfast, depart for Ez zahra. Visit Jaggi house where Paul Klee, MacKee and Moillet stayed. Lunch. Back in Tunis. Visit the central market. Visit the Hotel de France, place of residence of the painter Paul Klee. Free  afternoon. Dinner and accommodation in Tunisia Palace 4 * or similar.

Day 8: Tunis – Tunis Apt (20 Kms)

Transfer to the Tunis airport. Boarding and departure formalities.
